Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love the food but confused about ingredient label! My rescue GSD loves the High Prairie food, and it has done wonders for her overall appearance - her coat has thickened and softened so much - and she's so playful and happy. Easy on the tummy, too. She never gets sick eating it. My friend uses the High Prairie puppy formula. My only confusion is over the labeling. If you look at the ingredients and the guaranteed analysis on your WEBSITE, both of them list taurine, which is important for me. Not a lot of dog foods include it. However, when you look at the actual label on the bag, taurine is omitted. Why?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Never been so happy to see my dog eat! Mabel is a 6 month old GSD mix puppy. After being on 3 other puppy foods prior, at the recommendation from a friend, we tried TOTW High Prairie Puppy. Mabel was having some stomach problems, wasn't interested in eating, had started to lose weight because she was vomiting up the food we had her on at the time(and no it wasn't cheap stuff), and also has a sensitivity to chicken. We took her to the vet and had a barium swallow and x-rays done just to be sure there wasn't an obstruction. Everything came back normal. So we bought a bag and after a few days on this food she is excited to eat, dances around her food dish, has more energy, and is back to acting like an energetic puppy!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My owner was away from his computer... Hi, my name is Molly. I’m a Wheaten Terrier, 14 weeks old, and I am writing to comment (don't tell my owner I'm using his computer) about Taste of the Wild puppy formula. My owner switched me over to this after arriving at my new home. I must say, I really like the taste! I always finish my meals, right down to the last kibble, so I’m sure that the TOTW company is doing something right. I also love the ingredients… no corn or other grains to upset my little tummy, and the first ingredient is buffalo… yummy! There are also lots of vitamins and other good things to keep me healthy. This is my first Amazon post, and I hope my review will help other dogs who see this post make a smart decision when considering puppy food. Thank you for reading, and tell your owners about this. - Molly

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great food for our babies!!! We changed our girls food to Taste of the Wild Puppy and could not be more pleased!!! The food has made our girl look so healthy!! The big surprise is that as most knows a German Shepard sheds a lot of hair but feeding her Taste of Wild has reduced the shedding to a minimum!!! Wow we are so grateful to be able to get this good food for our baby and to see how healthy she looks!!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect Pup food We rescued a 4 month old puppy from a hoarding situation. She was horribly under weight, her fur and skin were in bad shape. We have been feeding our other dogs Taste of the Wild for years. We had never used the puppy formula before so we gave it a chance. We were impressed with how quickly our little girls put on weight, thickened her very short coat, and how soft her coat became.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from the only food i will feed my pets We had a heart dog who owned us for 14 years. He ate TOTW High Prairie for 9 of those years, he never had any health issues. well, 1 ear infection his entire life, he died healthy and active from bloat. So when we decided it was time to get our new puppies, Australian Shepherds, the only brand we turned to was TOTW. They both love the food, they both are healthy and thriving, we did get them very young as the person that had them was ready for them to be gone at 4 weeks, they were eating TOTW Puppy High Prairie from 4 weeks, they are now 14 weeks and are active and healthy puppies. We also feed TOTW to our 2 cats.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Picky and sensitive pup loves it I have a czechoslovakian wolfdog pup, and ever since I brought her she never liked any of the dry foods I tried and always had diarrhea. Following many frustrating months, I contacted a breeder from abroad and she highly recommended feeding my pup with taste of the wild. My pup loves it and the diarrhea stopped almost immediately after she began eating this food, she gained lots of weight and her fur became lovely.

I have a 5 month old Weimaraner who has had 3 UTI's while on the High Prairie Puppy formula. Her urine is running at a high pH (8.0-8.5) and I would like to get it down around 6.5 to combat the bacteria. Is there another formula that you would recommend?

Asked by: geoflyfish
Hello. We're sorry to hear about your dog's UTIs. We do not add anything to any of our dog foods to alter the urine pH. Please consult with your veterinarian for diet options that would be appropriate for your pup.

Can I change the flavor of the food for my dog? Do you eat the flavor of the salmon? I want him to try all of them. All of them are only 3 months old, what do you think?

Asked by: Lola
Hello, thanks for contacting us. It is ok to rotate your pets’ diet to give them some variety as long as you make sure to feed a puppy formula or a life stages formula for their first year of life. To avoid digestive upset, we recommend limiting your rotation to two recipes and gradually mixing foods over a couple of weeks. When you transition between recipes, slowly reduce the amount of the old recipe and increase the new one. We recommend speaking to your veterinarian about rotation diets, as they best know your pets’ health.

I received the wrong shipment for my 7 six week old lab puppies.  I received the roasted bison and venison but not the puppy formula. Is there much difference?

Asked by: Bruce
Hi, Bruce. While our High Prairie Canine Formula is very similar to our High Prairie Puppy Formula, it was developed as a maintenance diet and does not provide the nutrients your 6-week-old puppies need. We recommend you continue to feed an all life stages formula, (like the High Prairie Puppy Formula) to your puppies until 12-18 months in age as they are formulated to meet the nutritional needs of dogs of all ages. These formulas include added DHA to help aid in proper brain and eye development for growing dogs.

Is your puppy food safe for my pup to eat since the grain free issues and heart issues? Also what are the main ingredients in your puppy food

Asked by: Kaiser1219
Hello and thanks for reaching out! Please know our recipes (including High Prairie Puppy) are complete and balanced for puppies and meet both the FDA and Association of American Feed Control (AAFCO) guidelines. As you heard, the FDA is investigating dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) in dogs that are not genetically predisposed to the condition. We are aware that they, and many researchers, are studying potential connections between grain-free diets and DCM, and no direct links have been made. Millions of dogs are thriving on grain-free dog food every day. We understand that pet owners are concerned and we encourage them to contact their veterinarians to discuss their pets’ individual dietary needs. We continue to monitor the research as our top priority is and always will be to provide pets with quality, safe food that meets all federal and state regulatory guidelines. Additionally, each recipe’s list of ingredients can be found on the side gusset of every TOTW bag, or the recipe’s product page on our website. For additional questions about our recipes, please contact us by visiting https://www.tasteofthewildpetfood.com/contact-us.

I saw the tour of your plant in the US. My question is does any of the ingredients come from or are processed in China before arriving at your plants?

Asked by: Scottiemom
Hello, most of the ingredients in Taste of the Wild originate in the U.S. There are critical ingredients, however, that are not available domestically in an adequate supply or with as much quality as our international supply. These ingredients (e.g., folic acid and taurine) are critical to our formulations and can only be sourced out of China. We believe omitting these ingredients would not be in the best interest of your pet.

Hello, does High prairie puppy food contain any chicken? I have read on a website that are selling your product that the aroma is made of chicken livers and hearts.

Asked by: Babeta
Hello, thanks for your question. The natural flavor in our High Prairie Puppy Formula is derived from hydrolyzed chicken liver. This means that the protein is broken down into small particles that are not recognized by the immune system in a pet with food allergies, but it still adds extra flavor for your pet.

What would be causing my 10 month old lab to still have occasional diarrhea even after switching to your grain free puppy food. Is there something else in it that she could be allergic to?

Asked by: Tina G
Tina, when dogs have occasional diarrhea, the most likely culprit is something they ate that isn’t part of their regular diet. This could be a treat or something they found in the yard or on a walk. Are you feeding your Lab any people food? It is possible for intolerance to a particular food to result in intermittent symptoms of digestive upset, so try to monitor what your dog is consuming. We suggest checking with your veterinarian about this issue.

my 4 month and 2 month old Olde English Bulldogges defacate about 5 to 8 times a day. is this normal with TOTW? And if not normal what can be the cause?

Asked by: Sieluv31
Hello, thanks for contacting us. It is not unusual for the amount of feces to increase following weaning. As puppies get older a decrease in food consumption should result in fewer, smaller and firmer stools. If you are concerned with the number or consistency of your dogs’ stools, we recommend consulting with your veterinarian.

Pup is 14 weeks old..12lbs. How much and how often do you recommend to feed. Thanks KELLY

Asked by: KELLYD
Hi, Kelly. We recommend using the feeding guide printed on the bag and listed on the individual product pages on our website. The feeding guide provides the recommended cups per day based on age and weight, but can be adjusted based on your dog’s activity level and body condition. For a puppy that is 14 weeks old and 12 pounds, we recommend feeding them 2 – 3 cups per day. How often you feed your dog is a matter of personal preference, but also depends on your pet’s age. For puppies under 4 months of age, consider feeding 3 – 4 meals per day. As dogs get older, they can be fed less often – for dogs 4 – 6 months consider 2 – 3 meals per day and after 6 months consider 2 meals per day.

I the feeding chart posted correct? Feed much less as they get older?

Asked by: dhill42598
Hello and thanks for reaching out! In order for puppies to properly grow and develop, they require more calories, protein, fat, minerals, and amino acids than adult dogs do. As they mature and their rate of growth slows, their metabolism also decreases. For these reasons, an adult dog will require less nutrients than it did when it was a growing puppy. Please know, the amounts listed on the feeding guide can vary as the recommendations are a starting point. Some dogs may require more or less food than the guidelines depending on activity level and other factors. Additionally, your veterinarian can help you determine the best feeding guide for you dog based on his/her needs. what is the differance between High Prairie Puppy and pasific steam puppy besides ingredients and percentages are they aimed at specific breeds of dogs? or is it just just preference?

Hi, Terry, thanks for your question. The only difference between these foods is their main source of protein: salmon in Pacific Stream Puppy Formula with Smoked Salmon and bison and venison in High Prairie Puppy® Formula with Roasted Bison & Roasted Venison. Otherwise, both foods contain vegetables, fruits and antioxidants. Either food works for any breed!

Hello, thanks for contacting us. We are sorry to hear about your dog’s upset stomach. Any time you change the diet that you are feeding your pet, it is possible that it may adversely affect the GI tract. My German Shephard male puppy is 11 weeks old, he weighs around 18-19 pounds. I was just wondering how much we should be feeding him, and how many times a day? Thank you.

Asked by: Blue
Hello, we apologize for the delayed response. The feeding guide (located on the back of the bag and on the individual product page on our website) provides the recommended cups per day based on age and weight. These recommendations can be adjusted based on your dog’s activity level and body condition. For an 11-week-old puppy that weighs 18–19 pounds, we recommend feeding 2¼ – 3½ cups per day. How often you feed your puppy is a matter of personal preference, but also depends on your pet’s age. For puppies younger than four months old, considering 3–4 meals per day. As dogs get older, they can be fed less often – for dogs 4–6 months consider 2–3 meals per day and after 6 months consider 2 meals per day.
