Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love the food but confused about ingredient label! My rescue GSD loves the High Prairie food, and it has done wonders for her overall appearance - her coat has thickened and softened so much - and she's so playful and happy. Easy on the tummy, too. She never gets sick eating it. My friend uses the High Prairie puppy formula. My only confusion is over the labeling. If you look at the ingredients and the guaranteed analysis on your WEBSITE, both of them list taurine, which is important for me. Not a lot of dog foods include it. However, when you look at the actual label on the bag, taurine is omitted. Why?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Never been so happy to see my dog eat! Mabel is a 6 month old GSD mix puppy. After being on 3 other puppy foods prior, at the recommendation from a friend, we tried TOTW High Prairie Puppy. Mabel was having some stomach problems, wasn't interested in eating, had started to lose weight because she was vomiting up the food we had her on at the time(and no it wasn't cheap stuff), and also has a sensitivity to chicken. We took her to the vet and had a barium swallow and x-rays done just to be sure there wasn't an obstruction. Everything came back normal. So we bought a bag and after a few days on this food she is excited to eat, dances around her food dish, has more energy, and is back to acting like an energetic puppy!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My owner was away from his computer... Hi, my name is Molly. I’m a Wheaten Terrier, 14 weeks old, and I am writing to comment (don't tell my owner I'm using his computer) about Taste of the Wild puppy formula. My owner switched me over to this after arriving at my new home. I must say, I really like the taste! I always finish my meals, right down to the last kibble, so I’m sure that the TOTW company is doing something right. I also love the ingredients… no corn or other grains to upset my little tummy, and the first ingredient is buffalo… yummy! There are also lots of vitamins and other good things to keep me healthy. This is my first Amazon post, and I hope my review will help other dogs who see this post make a smart decision when considering puppy food. Thank you for reading, and tell your owners about this. - Molly

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great food for our babies!!! We changed our girls food to Taste of the Wild Puppy and could not be more pleased!!! The food has made our girl look so healthy!! The big surprise is that as most knows a German Shepard sheds a lot of hair but feeding her Taste of Wild has reduced the shedding to a minimum!!! Wow we are so grateful to be able to get this good food for our baby and to see how healthy she looks!!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect Pup food We rescued a 4 month old puppy from a hoarding situation. She was horribly under weight, her fur and skin were in bad shape. We have been feeding our other dogs Taste of the Wild for years. We had never used the puppy formula before so we gave it a chance. We were impressed with how quickly our little girls put on weight, thickened her very short coat, and how soft her coat became.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from the only food i will feed my pets We had a heart dog who owned us for 14 years. He ate TOTW High Prairie for 9 of those years, he never had any health issues. well, 1 ear infection his entire life, he died healthy and active from bloat. So when we decided it was time to get our new puppies, Australian Shepherds, the only brand we turned to was TOTW. They both love the food, they both are healthy and thriving, we did get them very young as the person that had them was ready for them to be gone at 4 weeks, they were eating TOTW Puppy High Prairie from 4 weeks, they are now 14 weeks and are active and healthy puppies. We also feed TOTW to our 2 cats.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Picky and sensitive pup loves it I have a czechoslovakian wolfdog pup, and ever since I brought her she never liked any of the dry foods I tried and always had diarrhea. Following many frustrating months, I contacted a breeder from abroad and she highly recommended feeding my pup with taste of the wild. My pup loves it and the diarrhea stopped almost immediately after she began eating this food, she gained lots of weight and her fur became lovely.

I've been feeding my 4 year old golden Taste of the Wild since she was 7 months, and just recently bought a bag without seeing it said "puppy formula" on it. Is it better I go back and get the regular adult formula? Or does it not matter?

Asked by: Chris
Hi, Chris! No worries, because High Prairie Puppy is an All Life Stages recipe, meaning it is formulated to meet the nutritional needs of healthy dogs of all ages and sizes and can be fed to your dog indefinitely. However, when you transition between recipes, we recommend slowly reducing the amount of the High Prairie Canine and increasing the amount of High Prairie Puppy over a 7-10 day period to avoid digestive upset. Please know, all of our products do have a satisfaction guarantee. If for some reason High Prairie Puppy doesn’t work out for your dog, you may return it (with receipt) for a refund or exchange.

My 10 week old German Shepherd is all skin and bones, previous owners had no clue. What can we do to put weight on her a bit faster? We are mixing high prairie both wet and dry.

Asked by: Mjlopez
Hello and congrats on the new puppy. There are several things that can cause puppies to be underweight. We recommend consulting your veterinarian to make sure your puppy does not need to be treated for a medical issue such as internal parasites. Your veterinarian can also help determine the right meal plan for your German Shepherd. We have a 12 week old Lab and a 8 and 10 year old Lab. Curious if this would be better for the older ones. They have been on your adult formula Bison for a year and both have seem to be gaining weight. Thanks

Asked by: joey185
Hello. Our High Prairie Puppy food is formulated to meet the nutritional levels of dogs at all life stages, from puppy through adulthood. It is slightly lower in protein, fat, and calories than the High Prairie Canine formula, so it may be a better choice for your older dogs. If they continue to gain weight, a vet visit may beneficial to discuss options for further calorie restriction as well as implementation of an exercise program. We recommend feeding your pet based on their current weight and age. The recommended feeding guide can be found on the back of each bag or by visiting http://www.tasteofthewildpetfood.com/formula-finder/formula-result

What is the calcium to phosphate ratio of your dry puppy and mature dog foods. I will be getting a Labrador puppy soon and have been told that a certain ratio is best. Thank you.

Asked by: Denny
Hi, Denny. Our High Prairie Puppy formula has a calcium to phosphorus ratio of 1.4:1.0 which meets the AAFCO recommendations for large breed puppies like Labradors. The High Prairie Canine formula has a higher calcium to phosphorus ratio of 2.1:1.4 which would not be appropriate for large breed puppies. Additionally, all of our all life stages foods were formulated with large breed puppies in mind and contain the correct balance of calcium to phosphorus. I feed my 9-month old Australian x German shepherd the High Prairie Puppy Formula. What would be the best adult food for her now? I thought the High Prairie would be the logical choice, but chicken meal is the 3rd ingredient, which she doesn't digest well

Asked by: vani
Hello, since our High Prairie Puppy is an all life stages formula, you can continue to feed it when your dog is an adult. Sierra Mountain and Pine Forest are also all life stages formulas and both are chicken-free. The puppy and adult formulations of Pacific Stream are chicken-free as well. Large or giant breeds of dogs may need a diet formulated for puppies longer than other breeds. For these dogs, we often recommend feeding a puppy or all life stages formula until the dog is 12-18 months old. However, please consult with your dog’s veterinarian to choose the best formula based on your dog’s needs.

My puppy has a relatively high urine PH level (range 7-8.4) and has had a couple UTI's. The vet is questioning the food, but we really would like to stay with TOTW. Would the pacific stream be a better option to help lower my puppy's ph?

Asked by: th1978
Hello, thanks for being such a loyal Taste of the Wild family member! We’re sorry to hear about your puppy’s UTIs. We do not add anything to our dog foods to alter the urine pH. When there is an infection in the urinary tract, it is often the bacteria in the urine that cause the urinary pH to rise. Therefore, treating the underlying infection with an appropriate antibiotic will lower the urinary pH in most cases. If your puppy continues to have a high pH despite negative urine cultures, your veterinarian may recommend a prescription diet that promotes formation of more acidic urine.

Asked by: Jason
Hi, Jason. Because our puppy foods were developed for all-life-stages, they can be continued indefinitely. In general, a growth or all-life-stages formula is suggested for the first year of life. We recommend talking to your veterinarian about the appropriate time to transition your pet.

Asked by: RENEE
Hi, Renee. We recommend you try one of our All Life Stages formulas that are listed below. These formulas meet the nutritional needs of growing puppies but the kibble size is larger than the puppy formulas – they are a flat, round disc shape approximately the diameter of a dime. • Pine Forest Canine with Venison & Legumes • Southwest Canyon Canine with Wild Boar • Sierra Mountain Canine with Roasted Lamb If you have any additional questions, please feel free to contact one of our product specialists by calling 1-800-342-4808 or email us by visiting https://www.tasteofthewildpetfood.com/#contact-us.

How do you transition a 7 month old golden retreiver to your food. The is on science diet now but having g.i. Issues with it.

Asked by: Reagan
Hi, Reagan. We recommend a gradual transition between formulas over a period of 7–10 days. You can do this by mixing 25% of the new food with 75% of the current food for 2—3 days. Then, 50% of each food for 2–3 days followed by 75% of the new food with 25% of the current food for 2–3 days before feeding the new food entirely. For dogs with sensitive stomachs, we recommend extending the transition period to 14 days.
