Rated 5 out of 5 by from Our picky eater Loves it! When we got our little girl Penny, we had the hardest time getting her to eat anything! We would buy bags of food trying them out to find that she was just so uninterested. Finally we tried Taste of the Wild. SHE LOVED IT! Gobbled it up! This is the only food Penny will eat! Simple ingredients, nutritious, the bag even has a feeding recommendation chart on the bag! We will continue with Taste of the Wild, and Penny will continue Loving it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Our dog's Favorite Our dog, Archie, has been enjoying Appalachian Valley for most of his 4 years. At our last veterinary appointment, the vet described him as "perfect." I attribute much of that to his diet. His weight gain has been appropriate for a dog his size. And his overall health is excellent. When our son brought his dog to visit, she took to eating Archie's food. Now she eats Appalachian Valley regularly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Loved by our dogs, and healthy! I am so glad I discovered this brand of dog food. It's one I can trust to be healthy and safe for my fur babies. Even better, my two bichons love their kibble!! My Zoey even hits her bowl and asks for more sometimes...but I think it's also because her brother Ziggy ate some of hers haha. I can tell the food is good for them too because they both have lots of energy and are always happy.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Used to be great My dog is a picky eater and loved this food. Unfortunately around December 2019 there seems to have been a change made. The pieces are noticably flatter, and my dog will no longer eat his whole meal, as it upsets his stomach and gives him diarrhea. I thought maybe i just got a bad bag, but the next one was the same. He's a picky eater so now we get to start the trial & error of new brands

Rated 1 out of 5 by from smells bad and didn't digest well I realize dog food recipes will vary widely in characteristics, but this formula smells really suspect. I would have given a pass if my dog wasn't also having an upset stomach and irregular stool. This was after a gradual transition from another recipe. Maybe it's the canola oil? I'm not sure, but I expected more and will pass on TOTW in the future.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Never A Problem! I am a small breeder of Miniature Dachshunds. I have always used a premium grade food but seemed to have one issue or another with one of the dogs. However, that all changed when I switched to Taste of the Wild years ago! Even the most finicky eaters now enjoy their kibble and no issues at all with any of our breeding dogs either. Its a Win-Win!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sally the Chihuahua loves this! WE have been feeding Taste of the Wild to our dogs for years and Sally loves Applachian Valley. The chunks are just the right size for her little mouth and she gobbles it down. Her oat is shiny, her 12 year old eyes are still bright and she is still as playful as ever. I attribute herbyouth in old age to her diet!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from All three boys love this!! We were trying to find the right food for our three dogs and kept realizing that the brands we tried would always cause one of their stomachs to be upset. Thankfully we found that Taste of the Wild small breed food was a absolute hit! No more upset stomachs. Now we try to keep them from inhaling it too quickly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Mikey likes it! So this is actually the latest formula that we have tried. Mikey is an ancient stubborn dog with dementia that has always been a fickle eater. It has gotten worse now that he is older, finding a food he will eat is tough. We have been eating Appalachian Valley for a few months now and he consistently eats.

He has seizures & it is one of the few dry dog food on the market that he can eat because it doesn't contain potatoes or rosemary. Can you help me with how to do the transition from our current dog food to Taste of the wild Appalachian small breed? Thank you so much!

Asked by: Bonnie
Hi, Bonnie. We recommend a gradual transition between formulas over a period of 7 to 10 days. This is in case your pet has a sensitive stomach. You can do this by starting with 25% of the recommended feeding portion of the Appalachian Valley formula mixed with 75% of the recommended portion of the current formula for 2-3 days, then 50% of each for 2-3 days, and then 75% of the Appalachian Valley formula with 25% of the current formula for 2-3 days before feeding just the Appalachian Valley formula food.

We're thinking of switching our dog to your food. I see you have the Small Breed formula. However I was wondering if you have a Small Breed formula for Seniors (dog 8+)?

Asked by: Jen2016
Jen2016, Appalachian Valley Small Breed Formula is a maintenance diet appropriate for an older dog.

Can you give salt content? I have a dog with a heart murmur and needs low sodium food. Or would any of your dry dog foods qualify as low sodium?

Asked by: julie2
The sodium content of Appalachian Valley is 0.40% as fed. Several of our other formulas have lower sodium content than this one, however, we do not have any sodium-restricted diets.

Can I give this specific formula (small breed) to my 2.5lb maltese 12 week old puppy? Even tho this is not stated to be for puppies.

Asked by: Nikki
Hi, Nikki. The Appalachian Valley Small Breed Canine Formula is a great choice after your Maltese is 10-12 months old. Prior to this age, we recommend either of our puppy formulas – High Prairie Puppy or Pacific Stream Puppy. Our puppy formulas provide excellent nutrition for puppies of all sizes and breeds, and have special features to help support optimal health and well-being for growing puppies. Plus, the kibble is smaller in size, making it easier for puppies to chew and digest.

Asked by: Renee
Hello, thanks for contacting us. While Taste of the Wild does not have a specific weight control recipe, our parent company, Diamond Pet Foods, makes a Diamond CARE Weight Management Formula for Adult Dogs that is low in fat and high in fiber which may be a good option for your dog.
