Trout Limited Ingredient Recipe for Dogs

We believe everyone deserves to experience the benefits of simpler and cleaner eating. And that includes our pets. Limited ingredient diets may also be easier for some dogs to digest. In this simplified, limited ingredient recipe, spring-fed trout is the first of just four key ingredients. Along with chicken fat, trout also provides omega fatty acids that help maintain skin and coat health. Species-specific probiotics further support digestion, while guaranteed levels of antioxidants and DHA help support overall well-being. Finally, carefully selected vitamins and minerals ensure your dog is getting the balanced nutrition they require with the unique taste of trout they’ll crave.

4 key ingredients
  • Asset 1

    Trout

Spring-fed trout is the #1 ingredient. No rendered meats or by-product meals.

  • Asset 1

    Lentils

A superfood packed with protein, fiber, complex carbohydrates and essential nutrients.

  • Asset 1

    Tomato Pomace

Excellent source of soluble fiber and antioxidants.

  • Chicken Fat

This healthy fat is rich in omega fatty acids.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I got a free sample of this product and since my dog already has a certain dog food their stomach is used to I din't want to switch cold turkey to a new food. Instead I used this in a kong for him to enjoy as a treat. He really seemed to like it and seemed just as interested as he is when I used treats. I wouldn't switch my dog to this since we already have a type of food that works well, but I would recommend to others looking for a new dog food or for new dog owners to start out with.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Helos with loose stools We have a 2yr old 105 lb female German Shepherd who has had loose runny stools since she was 3months. Vet did lots of test everything ok but still diarrhea. Tried many many different foods even homemade. Holistic vet said no chicken fish would be good. Found prey trout and her stools changed almost immediately. She still occasionally has loose poos but most of the time there good. Can't say she's crazy about the taste she doesn't eat like she use to but at least she's pooping better.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Finally!!! No more ear problems!! I have tried nearly every limited ingredient grain free dog food out there and my pit-mix would continue to dig at her ears. She's strong, so flapping her head constantly eventually broke up skin on the tip of her ear. Vets thought food related and after trying several- I suspected it may be the 'meat meals' they all seem to have in the ingredients. I found 'Prey' and they had no meat meals listed. She has been eating this for 3 weeks now and her ears are healed. Finally!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from I love the Taste of the Wild packaging — it’s creative and appealing to the eye. The smell, however, is horrible. I had to keep it in its own box because it started to smell up our mud room. Even though I introduced it slowly to my dog, he threw up the first day he ate it. He seemed to like it later, but I would definitely suggest another flavor besides Trout. I appreciate the opportunity to sample this dog food and received it as a complimentary sample through Influenster.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from When I received my free sample I was pleasantly surprised to find that we had received the trout blend. I was eager to let my puppers try it! I added a small amount of the package to their regular food just as the package suggested and to my surprise they ate all the trout pieces of food out instead of their regular food! They absolutely loved it!! I will for sure be looking into purchasing some to feed them on a regular basis. Taste of the Wild PREY Trout Formula for Dogs

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I received a sample of his to try for free from a VoxBox through Influenster however all my opinions are wholly mine based on my dogs reaction and experience testing this out. I am super picky about what I feed my dog and the ingredients in this seem top notch compared to what my dogs normal food is. The smell of the trout is very fishy and that might put off some humans but my dog went bonkers for it. I am actually going to used the 2nd sample bag as high value treats.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from my dog is very picky when it comes to dog food. And to my surprise he really enjoyed this food. He sniffed it for a second and then went at it and ate up the few pieces we gave him to test out. The food was a big hit, easy on his little tummy and he loved it. I highly recommend this food product if you have fur babies. Best believe they are going to love it! #wildforprey #complimentary #shelfie @tasteofthewild @influenster Taste of the Wild PREY Trout Formula for Dogs

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I recieved a sample size of this dog goof through influenster. My dogs are super picky when it comes to dog foor. I expected them to sniff it and walk away bit to my surprise they chowed down on it like there was no tomorrow. I will look for stores that sell this brand of dog food and buy more. It has really god ingredients and smells good. I recieved the trout formula. It really smells like fish. This dog food is a thumbs up for me! I highly recommend it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Overall, the nutrients and crude amounts are about the same, and slightly more for some things than the food we currently give our dogs. I think the taste and the price is where they’re the most different. While I understand you pay for quality, it’s a bit pricey for us. Our dogs seem to prefer it though because they stuck their faces in their dishes right away. I’d say if you can afford it, go for it. It seems to be a healthy dog food and quite tastey.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My puppy absolutely loved this! I am very picky about the food I will give her, I don’t want her to eat something that isn’t good for her. But this food is great and she loved the taste! Plus she was full, she wasn’t trying to get more food right afterwards! I definitely would recommended this brand! I plan to look into the other flavors they have for dogs! I received this product from Influenster free for testing purposes but all opinions are my own.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I've been using Taste of the Wild PREY Trout Formula for Dogs for about a week and a half now as treats for my 5 year old dog. He will pretty much eat anything, so I was not surprised to see that he loved it. My dog does have a sensitive stomach, so I was concerned to switch his food over immediately (definitely check out the information on the package prior to giving to your pet), but he seems to have been doing fine with this formula as a treat!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from We've been using this as a supplement to our dog's regular food and as treats. We've noticed that she's more excited for her meals with the trout formula mixed in, and she'll do just about anything to get it as a treat! It's comparably priced to our regular dog food, which is Nutrisource lamb formula, so we'll be incorporating it into her diet in the future. I love the ingredients list and I'm excited for her to get a new variety of nutrients!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from My dog is somewhat picky when it comes to dog food but she seemed to like this one. I received this dog food for free from Influenster to try for an honest review and I’d say it’s been good. She was pretty skeptical at first but she then ate it no problem. The second bag she was ready to eat immediately so I’d say it’s a success. As long as she keeps going through the second bag, I can definitely see myself buying this for her in the future

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Our old pup is back!! Our Scout has allergies and it was recommended we switch to a limited ingredient food. We tried another brand, and she would NOT eat it. She lost too much weight. Next we tried Prey Trout recipe, and she is back!!!! Scout happily eats her food everyday and even licks her bowl!! Her coat is glossy, she is not longer digging at her skin all the time, she has her giddy up back. We are very happy to have found this food for our baby girl!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I just adopted a new dog this week. I am very cautious about the food that he eats, not only because I am a concerned pet parent, but also because when we got him, he was a bit overweight, and we are trying to slim him down. I love that this pet food has all natural ingredients that he loves (ate it VERY quickly), and that there are no added fillers that can often cause weight-gain. We were very happy to receive this product free in a voxbox.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Our 3 year old rescue dog Roy LOVED his complimentary Taste of the Wild Prey in Trout Formula for dogs! Roy has a very sensitive stomach so we always have to be careful what we feed him. The kibbles were a perfect size for Roy's lil mouth as he hates big kibbles. He loved his free sampling and we cannot wait to try some of the other flavor varieties for him! I LOVE that this is grain free and non-gmo!!! <3 #WildForPrey #complimentary

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Taste of the wild is the best dog food and I loved their prey series. They have simple, healthy ingredients with no fillers.....grain free. I love the different flavor options. I am a petcare provider and I recommend this product to all of my clients. I have seen it cure an upset stomach time and time again. My dogs loves the trout flavor and it didn't upset their tummies like some fish food. #freestuff #complimentarysample #voxbox

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My lab puppy Cocoa Pebbles loved this stuff! She gobbled it all up like she hadn’t eaten in days. Our fat girl loves to eat but normally she’ll kinda play around with her food then gradually eat it little by little. This time she torn in immediately an ate every bite. The ingredients were totally to my satisfaction so I had no problem feeding this to her. I recommend this food for your dog especially if they’re a picky eater.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My dog instantly new this came in the mail just for him. He was already jumping up and down before I even got the box of Taste of the Wild Prey open. Fish is not typically a flavor I buy for him but the moment I ripped open the package he went to town devouring every last bite of the Trout Formula. I love that it is a healthier option for my dog and I can feel good giving it to him. I will buy Taste of the Wild again!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My dog is a boxer and usually he is very picky when it comes to the food he eats. He also has a sensitive stomach and I do not feed him table food, so I am usually very skeptical of feeding him new brands of food. However, he smelled the dry dog food from the Taste of the Wild PREY and then demolished it. He loved it and we loved that he was giving the product to try free of charge complimentary from Influenster.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I don’t normally have my pet try new things without reading about them first but since this was free we gave it a shot. I mixed it in with some of his normal food and he ate it but didn’t seem to care for it. Once I mixed the rest of the bag into the tub of his food he didn’t seem to mind eating it. It’s hard to tell what an animal thinks of a new food because you can’t speak to them but he seemed to like it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from @TasteOfTheWildPetFood @Influenster #WildForPrey #Complimentary We liked our complimentary samples of #tasteofthewild so much that we purchased a big bag! I have trouble getting Piper to eat regularly - but she LOVES this flavor/brand. It's taste of the wild 'Prey' in trout if you want to get your fave doggie a try. It has probiotics in it, that make everything, well, "better"... I'll leave it at that.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My baby girl loved it so much she is a small dog so I gave her the bags at 4 different times and she would get so excited when she seen the bag cause she knew its was time to eat yummy food. She didn't get any reactions to the food which she normally does so I'm constantly having to change her food but this one she liked it and she didn't have any reaction so I'm happy with it if she's happy with it

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Both of my dogs absolutely loved this food! I ended up putting some in their treat-dispensing toy and both of them just couldn't get enough. Neither had any digestive issues after eating it. The food seems to be easy for them to chew, too. I am very impressed with the ingredients list for this food. It is everything I look for in a dog food and I may just consider a switch in the near future!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Disappointed that Sunflower Oil Is Taken Out We have a dog with lots of allergies, and this food has worked great for her. Unfortunately, the sunflower oil is now being replaced with chicken fat and that will rule out this formula due to allergies. I called TOTW, and was told that because the chicken fat is preserved with mixed tocopherols it will not trigger the allergy - but today, my vet told me that is inaccurate and it will definitely trigger symptoms. Chicken fat is almost always a highly processed by-product extracted from chicken meal or "leftover" cuts of chicken. It is not nearly as healthy for your dog - but it sure is cheap. I am not sure if the change is being made due to supply issues to simply because they are looking out for a higher profit margin (which is my guess). I would prefer to pay a couple more dollars a bag and have the sunflower oil, which is a great source of essential fatty acids and makes dogs' coats shine. What a shame.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I cannot begin to tell you how excited I was to receive Taste of the Wild Prey Trout Formula for my dog, Shy! Although she is an older, large (55 pound) mixed breed, she is spoiled and treated like one of our kids! I have to admit; I'm not very selective about the dog food I buy for her, but when she does get a high-quality brand like Taste of the Wild PREY, not only can I see how excited and eager she is to devour it, but her energy level clearly rises! Made with Non-GMO ingredients, grain-free, and no artificial colors or ingredients, I feel like a proud dog-momma to be nourishing my sweet Shy with such a high quality dog food. The minute I opened the bag, which I received complimentary from Influenster, she was running over, wagging her tail, and devoured it without stopping! I highly recommend Taste of the Wild PREY Trout formula for dogs as a superior brand that your dog will be sure to love!

Are there any mixed tocopherols in this product? My dogs allergy panel came back that he is allergic to this and we're having a hard time finding a food that works for him. I don't see any in the ingredients but I am leery of "natural flavors".

Asked by: Courtney
Hello and thanks for reaching out! The ingredients in our Taste of the Wild PREY dry foods are preserved with mixed tocopherols (compounds of Vitamin E).
