Rated 5 out of 5 by from Safe for sensitive tummies! Just a few months ago our pups, Cooper (catahoula cur) and Athena (American pit bull terrier), both had a severe illness called hemorrhagic gastroenteritis. HGE symptoms are similar to parvovirus; it's abrupt, traumatic, and can be fatal--there is also no official cause. However, veterinarians commonly speculate it could be caused by a bacteria in the soil, stress, a food allergy or contamination. Not knowing much about the disease, once theory recovered, we mistakenly fed them the same food (Kal-Kan). Athena suffered from HGE a second time. Not sure if it was a bad batch, kept in storage too long, allergies, etc.... So, we fed her a raw diet for two months and after doing some much needed research, we chose Taste of the Wild. We're glad we did! The pups have been healthy for nearly six months and they love it. They've never been so excited about food before. It's a huge relief to know that we're feeding our babies quality ingredients that their tummies can handle--food they deserve. Thank you!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So very glad I switched! I was feeding my Bulldog the adult version & my Boxer the Puppy kind. I have since started the Boxer on the Adult as well. They get so excited when they see me carrying that big bag in! I had always fed my dogs Purina or store brand. I had a Boxer pass away last year. After doing a ton of research I decided to pay the extra money & switch to Taste of the Wild when I got a new puppy. It was the best decision I've made! They're both healthy & their coats are so shiny! I tell all my fellow dog lovers to do the same! And 1-2 times a week I mix in a can of the wet food for a treat.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Boxer and Chihuahua LOVE TOTW High Prairie Canine We started feeding TOTW over a year ago and our dogs absolutely love it. We have a black Boxer and he cannot get enough of his food, we feed him the recommended amount, he is very active and his weight is inline. Since he started this food, his coat is so shiny, soft and beautiful. Our chihuahua also loves the food and she has done very well. We have tried the other flavors, but they prefer the High Prairie Canine hands down. We do have another Boxer who was overweight to begin with and unfortunately gained weight on the TOTW, we tried reducing his serving size and he continued to gain weight. We ended up switching him to a different brand and he is now losing weight consistently. Even still I highly recommend TOTW High Prairie Canine, it just didn't work for my ONE dog. We love it and continue to keep our other two dogs on it. I would also say to make sure you read serving sizes for your dog as it typically less than your normal high end brand foods. I gave a sample of the dog food to my sister and parents, their 5 dogs loved it and now all 5 dogs eat TOTW.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Quality Food We switched Wilson (mixed breed 13 yrs old) to High Prairie several years ago when he developed some digestive problems with his dry food. Last year, although trim and otherwise healthy, he developed Canine Diabetes. In working with our vet to stabilize his blood sugars, he was able to keep right on enjoying his TOTW. Almost a year later, he is still doing well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Trixie loves it We got our cattle dog mix Trixie 3 years ago, at the time our local pet store had samples of every type of Taste of the Wild, so she tried them all. We started her on the puppy version of this and once she was old enough moved up to the adult version of High Prairie. She loves it! She's never had a health problem! Strangers are always commenting on how shiny her fur is, and how defined her muscles are; I like to think High Prairie helps with both of those things. The only downfall is she has the WORST breath from it, she has antlers to keep her teeth sparkling white (the vet always compliments how healthy her teeth are), and is an inside dog unless accompanied outside as the property is unfenced. I recommend this product to all my friends!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Our Pittie girls love it. We have a 4 year old pitbull who has had skin allergies for almost all of her puppy life. We slowly made the switch to this formula when she was around 2 years old. And I must say, not one break out since and she is so full of energy and looks amazing. We also have twin Pitties that are 2 years old. We used puppy formula for starts and now on this. Our girls are built like no other, fun and full of energy. We use taste of the wild for all our animal needs. Even our cat. We even use this for our soon to be Mommy of fur babies. We love this and it has done wonders for our babies. Not to mention bringing a friends dog from the line of death when she was found abandoned in the woods. He now loves his pittie to pieces.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My dog finally eats! My dog is a very picky eater when it comes to dry dog food. Before we were feeding him pedigree and he wasn't eating very well, so i decided to do some research on grain free dog food. I had seen that this particular brand had very good reviews and was rated as a top grain free dog food so i decided to try it. He absolutely LOVED it! I finally got my dog to eat 2 meals a day both morning and evening without any hassle. We have also tried the wild boar and a sample pack of the roasted fowl. Both are great as well!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Really likes this food We have tried several different dry foods until Taste of the Wild, although Bogart did not like the fish based food, I'm glad we persisted and tried the Venison based food. He must be more of a meat eater because he loves it! We will rotate every 3 months or so, but will stick with meat based formula.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Our Aussies go crazy for it! We have 3 toy Aussies to whom we first started feeding Taste of the Wild to in 2009. So glad they came out with a smaller breed formula for our Aussie/Yorkie mix.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I’ll never switch away from TOTW My dogs both ate this food for 3 years, one was a growing Doberman and one was an aging carin terrier. The Doberman, Ryka still eats it and flourishs on it (our Cairn has passed now). I learned my lesson the hard way- I’m disabled and I thought I could try to cut a little bit of spending using less for all my monthly dog stuff- including buying TOTW, I know I’m dumb for that, but this disabled life makes you cut some corners. Due to my misjudgment my girl was suffering on the other food- no energy, she gained so much weight, her shining coat turned dull and dandruff filled, and when we did get her off the couch to play she wouldn’t make it 20 minutes- she’s regularly an energy filled 3 y/o Doberman who can go 50 mins and beg for more playtime later. Took her to the vet and she had gained 8 lbs over her usual weight and she hadn’t finished even half of the other food yet- So that other brand got trashed and TOTW reigns supreme in our household forever more- my girl’s energy came back, her coat is always sleek and shining, and she has all the fuel she needs for whatever I ask of her. She was on this recipe (High Prarie) for a long time, but she’s tried all of them- I think this and Pacific Stream are her absolute favorites. She’s pictured with a bag of Pine Forrest because it’s the last recipe she needed to taste test- now she’s officially tried all the regular ones- maybe she’ll have to try the Prey varieties! We live in Missouri too- so Ryka definitely wants to become a TOTW taste tester when she grows up!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome food! I love this dog food! My labrador loves the taste, his fur is the softest fur I have ever felt, his fur is super shiny, he has no excess fat, and the price is reasonable! I recommend this food to everyone. I think it is great.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best food we have ever purchased We started buying taste of the wild a few months after getting our sweet Dexter, he’s a German Shepard so it’s made for him. Ever since he has started with this brand he refuses to eat anything else. When we first saved him he was very gaunt and now he is as solid as a House. we only have one store in town who carries this brand and we make sure we do what we can to continue to use taste of the wild. We will never switch and thank you for caring about what I put into my dogs body. He is my pride and joy and he deserves nothing but the best.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Affordable and the dogs love it, double bonus! We've fed our dogs TOTW for a few years after a friend recommended it. Our dogs' coats have never been softer/shiner and the shedding has decreased. People are often amazed when we tell them the oldest is 12!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Our dog won't eat anything else! My 2 yr old, female Australian Sherherd came from a bad situation. She was a physical mess. I tried her on Taste of the Wild, and she loved it from the beginning. Her eyes are alert and clear. Her coat is beautiful! She won't eat anything BUT Taste of The Wild! Thank you for helping my little girl heal :-)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing food for Boxer We just switched our 2 year old female boxer to this formula. She has a sensitive stomach and had been throwing up her previous food 2-4 times per week. She would vomit undigested food, try to eat grass, and seemed drained. Since introducing her to TOTW, she has ZERO digestive problems. She hasn't thrown up at all. Her energy level is high, her coat looks amazing, and her behavior has improved. When it's feeding time she sprints to her bowl and devours this. Thank you for saving our dog! We are both so much happier now.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Resolved Stomach Problems Our dog had been having soft stool issues for over a year. We had taken him to the vet several times, we tried pumpkin, had fecal exams, tried Probiotics packets, stomach antibiotics, none of which help much at all. I read an article on the top dog foods, and Taste of the Wild ranked pretty high. I was going to try a more expensive premium brand food, but then saw Taste of the Wild before checking out, it was much more reasonably priced, and I purchased it. Within the first few days of mixing his old food with Taste of the Wild, we started to noticed a positive difference. Now that he is solely eating Taste of the Wild, his soft stool issues are gone, and I'm sure his stomach feels better. I was so impressed, I switched our cats over to Taste of the Wild cat line of products.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solved Long Standing Yeast Issues ~ Despite numerous prescribed medications for our Red Heeler, he experienced serious ear and skin problems from various "quality" dog food products we tried. Only after we switched him to the High Prairie Canine Formula did his skin heal and he regained his hearing. We're convinced....Will not use any other products for our dogs.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Only thing i feed my Dog!!! I have a Two year old yellow lab named Ghost, i have been giving him TOTW for a little over a year now. My long time friend was the one that told me about TOTW and the moment i gave it to my dog he licked the bowl clean in a blink of an eye. His weight is healthy and His coat is so soft. Yes he still is a puppy but the other stuff i was feeding him was causing him to bloat and his hair was falling out in clumps. Let me just say this Stuff is the Best I have ever fed any of my animals over the years.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Cured itching and scratching.. I started feeding TOTW in November 2016 because my Jack Russell mixed had skin issues. By January 2018 "ALL" of her skin issues ha cleared completely...she even has hair where she had none due to her chewing. And i will continue to feed both of my babiesTOTW. I also have a 1yo Jack Russell male.TOTW. They eat less of TOTW than the cheaper brands as well, and that is what made me decide that even though it "SEEMS" expensive in the long run it it actually as far as cost wise is affordable. I averaged the costs on a daily basis and it cost me roughly .40 cents a day to feed both my dogs. And given the health benifits i will continue to purchase TOTW going forward. My babies love it and it helps keep them healthy. Thank you TOTW.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My dogs love it! I have been feeding my dogs Taste of the Wild High Prairie dry dog food for several years. I use to have problems getting my dogs to eat dry dog food. Obviously, that previous food wasn't very tasty. I had read about grain free dog food and decided to give Taste of the Wild a try. My dogs loved it! They didn't leave any in the bowls! Even though I have big dogs, I love the smaller pieces. It's easier for my oldest dog to eat. I also think my dog's hair looks great because of this high quality food. If I get the chance, I recommend this food to others.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Full of chickpeas and legumes I've fed Taste of the Wild off and of for several years. Not bad for the price but it's full of peas/legumes. Soy is a legume and not good for dogs. Why would you add chickpeas? Just more filler.i hate that almost ALL food is full of peas now.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My girls favorite! I’ve been feeding taste of the wild for about 5 years now, my girls are super picky and couldn’t tolerate many other foods I’ve gotten them. Finally I found TOTW and since then have had the best results with their skin and digestion.... and they love it!!! Reasonably priced for a good quality food as well. I always recommend to others when I get the chance.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Has Fewest Side Effects for Thurston Thurston, my 6+ year old English Bulldog, has a history of problems caused by any number of things. In researching the best food for my little (or not so little) guy, I found this formula among the highest rated. It has proven to be an excellent choice for him as he has had the fewest issues since starting to eat High Prairie dry about a year ago. Rest assured that he won't be changing food again. It doesn't hurt that he also loves it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My husky loved it she wouldn't eat anything else! When my husband and I adopted a beautiful seal mark husky she was being fed this food. She wouldn't eat anything else. It seemed to help her with the seizures that came with her brain cancer and she kept a healthy weight while on the food. We put our next rescue dog on this food as well but had to switch to the wetlands formula. It helped him gain not only weight but muscle mass as well. I would feed this to my current dogs if the price was a little lower because I love the fact that it's grain free and it's good for the dogs

Rated 5 out of 5 by from TOTW is hands down the BEST! I have been feeding Taste of the Wild High Prairie formula for over 4 year and it is ALL my dogs will eat. They turn their nose up to other competitive food! Including name brands such as Merrick, Natural Balance, and Blue Buffalo (and that’s pretty hard to do). My dogs also have grain allergies and this is by far the best formula for them. My puppets ALWAYS get compliments about how shiny their coats are and how healthy their bodies are and I can say without a doubt - it is all because of Taste of the Wild. Highly recommend!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great ingredients. Great dog food. I prefer to feed my dogs high quality kibble and homemade and often feed venison. I like TOTW bison and venison because of it's ingredients and the fact that my dogs love the taste. Also, I can feed TOTW and not worry about the constant recalls, knowing that this is a quality product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from dog allergies I WOULD HONESTLY WISH YOU GIES HAD A BIGGER BAG THEN 28LB. i have tried to find it everywhere. the taste of the wild yellow bag is the only brand my pitbull/mastif does not get an allergic reaction too. he bleeds out of no where when he gets hyper, excited or what not when eating other dog foods. this food was recommended by his vet. its pretty expensive but it keeps him really healthy. i buy in bulk because i am low income and when i do have the money i like to get the best offer possible. please make bigger portions

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The only brand she gets excited for! My dog Gracie seemed to be very brand picky. When I adopted her, the family was feeding her Aldi store brand food. I switched her to Nutro Ultra thinking it was a considerable step up and she got horrible diarrhea. From there we went to Merrick, which she was never excited for, then to Whole Earth Farms as a cheaper alternative, but her stool was never right. I even tried Canidae, Fromm, and grain based Merrick; nothing seemed to interest her. After a lot of review online I decided to try TOTW. She absolutely loved the High Prairie formula and her stool went back to normal. I tried the Southwest Canyon formula and she wasn't too big on it. When I contacted customer service to ask about returning it, I also asked for samples to see what else Gracie would like. I got a box with eight sample bags for her to try. I was even able to give half of the samples to a neighbor who now feeds their Golden Retriever TOTW. Since then I have found Gracie likes the Wetlands formula as well so I rotate every bag. It seems to keep her and my wallet very happy.

What is the calcium and phosphorus dosage per cup?

Asked by: Tine
Tine, the amount of calcium is 2.1% and phosphorous is 1.4%, as fed, in High Prairie Canine. This would be 2.07 grams of calcium and 1.41 grams phosphorus per cup of food.

I saw this study linked to grain free food. What is the legume content in your food?  They are listed in the first 5 ingredients.  https://www.facebook.com/TVOlivia/videos/320378325205221/

Asked by: Devin
Hello and thanks for reaching out. As you saw, the FDA is investigating a previously unknown but potential link between a condition called DCM, or dilated cardiomyopathy, and dog foods containing peas and potatoes as main ingredients (primarily grain-free). Because taurine deficiency can be associated with DCM, a possible link between diet and the diagnosis is being explored. Taurine has not been recognized as an essential ingredient in dog food. All formulas produced by Taste of the Wild, including High Prairie Canine, are supplemented with taurine. Please know, we select all of our ingredients with the health and well-being of pets in mind, so peas and potatoes are included as they are a great source of protein, fiber and antioxidants. Our priority is to provide all pets with quality, safe food that meets all federal and state regulatory guidelines. We want to assure you that our #1 priority is the health and safety of all pets. A member of our veterinary team would be more than happy to help answer any additional questions you might have. Please give us a call at 1-800-342-4808 (8 a.m. - 5 p.m. CT weekdays).
